the
butterfly
wing

systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease that causes the immune system to attack the body's healthy tissue and organs. it’s believed to affect at least 5 million people worldwide, yet its cause is unknown and it is currently incurable.

for many people living with lupus, art is an essential form of expression, connection, contribution, and even healing. so i launched the butterfly wing - with the help of my friends at Lupus UK, AKQA, AMP Amsterdam, and a handful of artists from around the world - as a celebration of the lupus community and the marvellous talent, resilience and strength that exists within it.

lupus is a painful and challenging disease, but those who live with it do so with grace, determination and boundless creativity. this gallery is living proof of that fact. you can check it out here, and read about it here.
